Question
Back in high school acquired a Frank Holton of Chicago, Illinois Euphonium the serial number is #35646.  I haven't been able to find that much information on the euphonium or the company.  The euphonium is still in it's original case. And is in good condition, it does have some blemishes and dings on it, but other than that plays very well.  I have pictures of the instrument if needed.  Any information about the horn and what it would be worth, would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Holton was one of the major manufacturers in this country.  Your horn was made in 1916 before Holton moved the company to Elkhorn, WI.  You can find more information on the company at:  http://www.horn-u-copia.net/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=holton

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
