Antique Musical Instruments/Getzen compensating double horn

Question
I recently purchased a Getzen compensating double French horn serial #57345.  Can't seem to find out the age or real value of the horn... it's in decent shape, plays well- only 2 dents, but laquer is pretty bad.  Any ideas?  Thanks so much!

Answer
Getzen started the company in the 40s, but didn't start making french horns right away.  They probably started in the 50s.  The serial number of your horn says that it was made before the 1983 fire.  There are no serial number lists for that period.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
