Question
about how much would an old Henri Gautier Virtuoso euphonium sell for? It has a few small dents. I need an answer soon so i would be grateful if you could get a response to me soon.
THANK YOU

Answer
Gautier was one of the tradenames used by Lyon and Healy on horns they stencilled.  Some of the L&H horns were made by Bohland and Fuchs.  I recently saw a L&H tuba that looked practically identical to a Thibouville-Lamy tuba.

So, although it may be a decent playing horn, it isn't something that collectors are going to be clamoring after.

In other words, if you wanted to take a chance and buy an inexpensive horn to play, you may luck out - and get a player.  If you were hoping that collectors are scouring the world for a Gautier euphonium, sorry.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
