Antique Musical Instruments/Holton 65 trombone

Question
Kenton.
My son, Philip, has acquired a Holton 65 trombone. A find in a musical instrument pawn shop! The horn is to supplement his Bach 42 as an instrument for jazz and big band work. The Holton now runs as it was made and is obviously a smaller bore instrument than the bach or Yamaha he also plays. We have no information at all about its bore size etc and where in the Holton range this model sat.
It appears from a serial number search that this is a 1959 model. Silver plated with 7 inch bell.
Any info would be appreciated.

Answer
Unfortunately, I don't have any product catalogs for Holton of that era.  (I do have a picture of a 65 from 1946, so it looks like that they had been making the instrument for at least a decade.)

You can determine bore size by measuring the inner slide tube.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
