Antique Musical Instruments/Holton Cornet

Question
My father was in the musical instrument business in Newark, NJ (early 30's on)and I've kept a few
of the old instruments for sentimental reasons and now want to dispose of them. The Holton Cornet in orig. case, good shape, 2 mouthpieces + the extra valves + 2 cleaning swabs has a # of 6358 on the middle valve. Says Frank Holton, Chicago...Boston Model etched and New Proportion... (similar I guess to another one referred to on this site)Mother or Pearl valve buttons...blows well after all these years! Any ideas on value and best place to market it?

Answer
Well, it is becoming sort of a standard answer, and I apolgize for that, but it is the best I can come up with.

eBay is probably the best source for selling your horn, and for researching its value.  Look at the completed items for horns that are similar to yours, and you can estimate your's value.

And, also for selling. EBay is also good as a market.  Just be sure to describe it as fully and accurately as you can, and get the best photos you can get as well.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
