Antique Musical Instruments/"Jean Marbeau" Baritone horn

Question
I was just given an old silver baritone horn. The bell has a simple floral engraving with the name "Jean Marbeau" etched in the middle. There are no other names or numbers on this horn. Near the mouthpiece it says "France." I cannot find any info on this "brand"... Thank you for your time.

Answer
I've seen a few of those horns, but have never come across any company information.  They are not listed in the references, so I have to presume that they are a stenciled instrument.  But the ones I have seen are nicely done, and appear to be 1890s vintage.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
