Antique Musical Instruments/Jean Marbeau clarinet

Question
I just got an old black wooden clarinet with brass keys and fittings. It is in its original case, I think. It is marked LP  B  Jean Marbeau   Paris. I am a clarinet player and I see no needed repairs other than corks and pads. Its wood is in great shape and all "mechanics" seem to be just fine.

Any ideas about this one?

Answer
I am really here to respond to questions about brass instruments, but I did try to look up this maker.

Unfortunately, the only Marbeau had a different first name and was a brass maker.

The LP (low pitch) would probably indicate that it was a horn from the first couple of decades of the 20th century.

So, I can't really tell you whether it is a horn by a obscure maker, a little use trade name by some other maker or a knockoff by some maker.

Sorry I don't have better information for you.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
