Question
Kenton,  I have the above coronet all restored and ready to list on e-bay.  The serial number is 8050.  Any idea who made it or when it was made.  Thanks  Ron Neher

PS  You have used several of my pictures on your site.

Answer
Are you saying that it says: J Neuman on the bell? There was a J Neumann in Warsaw starting in the 1830's.

L&H was such a big operation and all their records were destroyed by fire.  So, it is a big frustration trying to make sense out of their history.

Peter Adams is trying to generate a serial number list but it is slow going.

L&H made some of their instruments and imported a lot more.  I think they usually labeled those that they made themselves as Own Make.  A lot of what they imported were Czech made.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
