Antique Musical Instruments/Martin Band Instrument Company

Question
My grandfather was Fred Holtz, one of the presidents of Martin Band Instrument Company. He died not long after I was born, and little of the company's history was passed down. My uncle, Fred Jr., reportedly made cases for Martin, but he rarely spoke about that period of his life. As a result, there is a hole in our family history that we wanted filled.

Thanks to your information to other questioners, I've learned more about Martin than I expected to learn, and I want to thank you for caring enough about history to make your information available.

Answer
Thank you for the kind words.

I don't recall what all may have been said about the Martin Company in this venue, and I would suggest that you join us over at www.horn-u-copia.net.  Most of what I know about Martin will be contained on those pages.

In spite of the fact that this forum terms me an expert, I am simply a collector of information shared by others.  You, very likely, have access to and perspectives on the Martin Co. that are unique. And, I hope you may be willing to educate me further.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
