Antique Musical Instruments/Noblet Trumpet

Question
My husband and I have purchased an antique Noblet Trumpet and were wondering the approximate value and era.  It is labeled Made In France, serial #13078, brass finish, the bell is marked with the initials over-layed ND, Noblet, Paris. The condition of the trumpet is as follows:  the horn itself has some denting and the finish is peeling with scratches.  The values seem like they need to be oiled. All pieces are present with the exception of the screw for the note holder.  It is contained in a leather bond case with the name Leblanc engraved in the case latches.  The latches appear to be silver.  The inside of the case is lined with velvet material.  Any information you could provide us on the era and an approximate value would be greatly appreciated.  I did find a Leblanc Trumpet which appeared similar on E-Bay but it was in mint condition and last time I checked it current bids were up to $500.00.  Sincerely,  Nadine Scoville

Answer
My understanding is that Noblet trumpets were actually made by Courtois in the 50s. The bells were different than the Courtois trumpets of the time that had a tonal ring around the bell. They were not as well made as the Courtois, but they were nevertheless professional horns.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
