Question
I learned to play on a trumpet which my grandmother also learned on.  It was manufactured by the ohio band instrument company in cleveland and the model is "The Regent" It appears to have a serial number stamped into the 2nd valve casing.  would like to know more about this instrument and when it was made. Thanks, -Chad

Answer
Ohio Band Instrument Company came into existence in the early 30's, it was based in Cleveland, and was headed by F. A. Reynolds.  There is a good possibility that it was a subsidiary of HN White.  Reynolds formed his own company in 1936.

Ohio Band Instrument Company was a subsidiary division exclusively targeting dealer sales in the school band market.

I have no information on serial numbers, so I don't know how to date it.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
