Antique Musical Instruments/Old trumpet

Question
I know you've had many questions about the Elkhart/Martin trumpets, but everytime I think I have mine answered, another item seems to contradict it, so I apologize if this seems redundant.
I have a trumpet that I purchased from an antique store.  On the bell is the Indian head, followed by "The Indiana Martin Band Inst. Co. Elkhart, IND."  The serial number is 73929.  I'm mostly interested in the date and how the "band inst. co." fits into the history of Martin.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
In 1938, Martin established the Indiana Band Instrument Company, but allowed the company to continue to operate independently until 1942.  In 1942, they converted the name into a student line for Martin.

They didn't use the same serial numbers as did the Martin Co.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
