Antique Musical Instruments/Olds Superstar Trombone

Question
Hi Kenton,
I have an Olds Superstar Trombone V20, the s/n (which is somewhat hidden) is 935344.  The number on the trigger is 47.  I'm looking to sell this one and would like to find out the approx. age.  It's a great playing horn and I have an Olds Studio, but I think I'll keep my Bach Strad. 36BO instead of the Superstar.  Your thoughts?
I appreciate your help,
Doreen

Answer
That horn dates to the mid 1970s.  I've not played a Superstar, but I've heard good things about them.  Other Olds I have played were good.  But rather than depend the opinion of others, trust yourself.   If you like the Bach better, that's all that counts.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
