Question
I have an old Kalashen trumpet numbered 7246. Could you give me some information on where to look for details about the history and value and worth of the trumpet. I'd like to put it in the hands of someone who would appreciate it but don't know
if it is worth restoring.

Answer
Mark Kalashen was a Dealer and possibly a Maker in New York from 1895 to 1930.  His address in 1901 was 173 Bowery St, and between 1904 - 1925 14 Cooper St.

Some of his trumpets are said to be made by Blessing based on the French Besson design i,.e. bore, reverse direction 2nd slide

If you wanted to send some pictures to me at  Kenton@PunxyPa.com, I'd be better able to give you an idea of what restoring it might take.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
