Antique Musical Instruments/Replacement valves for Holton trumpet

Question
I have a Frank Holton model 49 trumpet with serial #164178. The first valve on this trumpet broke into probably due to the stress from previous wear. Is there any way to get this valve replaced and what are the comparable used Holton trumpets that have the same valves?

Answer
That serial number goes back to 1946, so without researching it I would suspect it is unlikely that any stock valve is going to work.  But, I would think that the much more likely option would be to get the valve repaired.  Of course, there is also the (expensive) option getting one custom made.  And, even if you can find a replacement valve from another used horn, you are going to have some money into getting fitted to your horn as it isn't likely that it is just going to drop in and work.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
