Antique Musical Instruments/Sherwood trumpet

Question
Hello Kenton:
Some time ago I aquired a Sherwood trumpet and I can't seem to find any info about this horn.I did see some pics of cornets on your web-site, but no trumpets.
It has a silver finish and gold-washed bell..It looks to be a well made horn, and after I cleaned it up I find it to play quite well...The serial # is 13590. The bell reads:   Sherwood
                         Made in U.S.A.
Do you know who made these horns, or any thing about them?...Thanks,
            Kevin J.

Answer
So far, I haven't been able to track down any information on Sherwood instruments.  EXCEPT the Sherwood cornets - at least - look suspiciously like William Frank cornets.

So, my suggestion would be to go back to horn-u-copia.net and look at the various Frank trumpets (including American Prep, Belmore)  and see if they match up to your horn.

Let me know what you find.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
