Antique Musical Instruments/Vintage Selmer Signet Coronet

Question
I have a very old Coronet that has scrolling on it which says "Selmer Signet Reg. Pat. Off. Made in USA" The only serial number available on it is on the middle valve and is 10077.
I would like to know the age of it and the bore size. It has a  mouthpiece too which is very old. I would like some information on it as well. It says 'Herco' or 'Herca'. I would apreciate any information you might have.
Thanks.

Answer
The instrument dates to 1951.

Herco is a rather common after market mouthpiece, but I'm not sure of the company. There was a Herco company owned by a Hershman family in New York who dealt in guitars.  I don't know if they are the same source for the mouthpieces or not.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
