Antique Musical Instruments/Vintage trumpet

Question
I have a vintage trumpet serial #P49306 and is marked on the bell "Beaufort American, Chicago, USA. The trumpet is in a hard case which has the Frank Holton logo on a round bronze plate which reads: Frank Holton & Co. Elkhorn Wisconsin. The plate also has the deer head with large antlers above which is a bass drum with a trumpet and trombone crossed on top of the drum. Since the trumpet is not marked Frank Holton is this instruement a Frank Holton trumpet.
I cannot find a web site that lists all the Holton instrument model numbers like King does. Thanking you in advance. Rubin R. Wehmeyer 830 990 8060. 562 Winding Way, Fredericksburg, Texas. 78624

Answer
No, the case and the horn don't go together.  I THINK, but don't have any data to confirm it, that Beaufort was a tradename used by Lyon and Healy out of Chicago.  In all likelihood, it was made by a US maker (unless somewhere on the horn it says "made in . . . ")  So, you might want to compare it with horns such as Pan American, York, etc. to see if you can find a twin.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
