Question
I have a silver trumpet, It is smaller than most other trumpets i have seen. can you tell what kind of trumpet it is? How old? and if it is worth millions or if I should let my kids play with it? The value isn't so important since they are already using it. :)
It has these markings, Paramount Model, Made by, WM. Frank, Chicago, SN 5122

Answer
I'm not sure by the description whether you are talking about a cornet rather than a trumpet, or whether it is of a different.  An Eb trumpet/cornet would be smaller.  I've not heard of Frank having a Paramount model.  (I know that Ohio Band Instruments used some under that name.)

Um, what's in between letting the kids play with it and being worth millions.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
