Question
Question
I have recently acquired a silver trumpet that is Engraved on the bell with Windsor Elkhart, IND, USA. I would like to know how old it is and maybe if I could track ownership. It does have a serial number on it of R10465.  I see someone else had a similar trumpet with a serial number that would have meant it was produced a bit earlier.

What can you tell me about the quality of the instrument and the age, based on the two that have been asked about recently.

Don't you think these numbers must be serial numbers?

Chuck

Answer
I really don't have any further information about the brand other than what I have already posted.  I would think that is a serial number, but without a serial number list, it does little good and there would be no way to track ownership.  Practically all the instrument companies as they went out of business destroyed those kinds of records, they held no valve to them.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
