Antique Musical Instruments/antique trumpet (or is it a coronet?)

Question
Sixty  years ago my parents bought a used horn for me which I

learned to play and was a member of my high school band for just two years (Class of 1950) .  The instrument was made by the Frank Holton Co. and the serial number is 73957.  We paid $75 for it at the time and it was already an old trumpet but it was (and still is) in excellent condition.  It is still in its original hard leather carrying case lined in green velvet.  It has not been used for 56 years.  Is there a market for such an instrument?

Answer
No, it wasn't new when you played it.  In 1950, it was 28 years old.  It might be a trumpet, but it is more likely that it is a cornet as they were more common in 1922.  You can check on eBay for similar instruments to see what they are going for.  But, Holton made good equipment.  You should get more than you paid for it.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
