Antique Musical Instruments/conn coronet

Question
Hi there, thanks for providing this valuable service. I am trying to date what I think is a Conn Coronet. The only etching is Conn USA,Director some stars and figures in a parade and L39102 on one of the valve bodies. Is this piece worth much?

Answer
Hi Paul,

The Conn Director is a student model horn.  People today seem to prefer the trumpet to the cornet, so that won't help it in value.  (Though there is little real difference between a cornet and a trumpet.)  It was made about 1968.

It is a decent student horn, but they made a lot of them. So, you won't get a lot for it.   And, of course condition will impact on value.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
