Antique Musical Instruments/cornet

Question
I have a silver cornet with 3 extra valve slides and a lyre.  The valve numbers are 16, 17, 18 and the only writing on it is Austria on the middle valve.  On the bell there is a nice print on it also.

Answer
The 16,17,18 are just to keep track of which piston was custom fit to which casing.

Extra slides probably mean that it was intended to play at more than one pitch, possibly different keys, or high and low pitch.  It is probably one that was made in the first part of the 20th century.

Austria would be the country in which it was made.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
