Question
I have been carrying around a Conn cornet for about for about 43 years. It has a patent date of April,2 1907. There is also some #'s132432. I have the original case and mouthpiece as well. Would you have any idea as to a ballpark figure on its' worth?I have not polished it since I have had it.
                   Thanks

Answer
Hi Steve,

The patent date only tells you that it is no older than that date.  However, the serial number will give us more information.  It tells us that it was made in 1914.

I will not try to estimate its value as there are many variables involved.  However, if you want to watch the completed auctions on ebay for similar instruments, you should be able to get a reasonable idea.

Also you may want to check out the Conn Loyalist WEB site.  You may be able to match it up to a model number on there.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
