I have a King fluglehorn..serial number 104008..approximate date of manufacture 1925-1930 (according to my research).  Could you tell me about how many of this model were produced? It definitely doesn't look like todays' fluglehorn. It was listed in  King's catalog (year unknown...I only have a copy of the one page) as #1071..a model number, I suppose. Any information would be appreciated. I have several pictures of the refurbished instrument which I will send if you'd like.  Thanks.  Jim

Good question, for which I don't have an answer.  I've never seen those kind of numbers for any maker.  If you were talking about a Conn, Christine Dirksen keeps a database of serial numbers matched to the horn as she is able to retrieve them.  And, from it, although it is far from complete, I think it has enough listings, that an educated guess could be developed from it.  But, to my knowledge, no one has made a similar attempt for King.

If so, from what I understand, King was unsure whether to market it as a fluglehorn or as a large bore trumpet.
