Question
i reciently purchased and flute made by frank holton and co. but the guy didnt know the year it was made, i was wondering if u could tell me when it was made and if it has any sort of value if in good condition. the model num is BN8328. ty

Answer
The actual Holton company was purchased by Leblanc in 1964.  Holton used a pure numerical serial number system - no letters.  And Leblanc continued that until at least 1980.  I don't have any lists that show a serial with a BN prefix, so I presume it is newer than 1980.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
