Question
I have an old Holton-Clarke trumpet...or maybe a corinet. I read that it was probably a corinet because of the holton-clarke model name. How can I find out the age. The serial# is :63922. Thanks

Answer
Herbert Clarke was a famous cornet soloist with the Sousa Band.  He didn't like trumpets, and didn't consider them suitable for solo work.  So, I would certainly think that you have a cornet.  Basically, at that time the trumpet was a different instrument than the modern trumpet.  It was much more cylindrical throughout the tubing and had a much brighter sharper sound, more suited to fanfares than serenades.

It appears to have been made in 1930.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
