Antique Musical Instruments/old Pan American Cornet

Question
I have an old Pan American cornet, with a serial number 190259. It bears no model markings or identifiers. I'm looking for age, value, availability of repair parts if any would exist...
Thanks-

Mark

Answer
Your horn dates to 1949.  Pan American was Conn's student line, so they are not worth as much as main line instruments.  As far as repair parts, it would depend on what was needed.  Most of a brass instrument is repairable, although, the only true spare parts that will be readily available will be the parts that share commonality with parts off a newer horn.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
