Antique Musical Instruments/old trombone

Question
I just came across a very old trombone with scroll-type bracing between the bell section and also on the slide.  Being a trombonist and band director, I haven't seen one of these and wondered if you recognized it from my description.  The bell is rolled with friction fit between the two sections.  It's a small bore tenor trombone with serial number 1206 but no other markings that I can tell.  I'm reluctant to do much cleaning on it as the green and white tarnish is quite extensive.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi John,

The only one I can think of is a Getzen Model 60 that sounds like your description.  You can see one at:

But I don't know that is had a friction fit though.

If you want to try to clean it, I can give you some recommendations.  Email me at:  Kenton@punxypa.com

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
