Antique Musical Instruments/How old are these two trumpets? Holton, Reynolds

Question
Hi,
I have two old marching band trumpets:
1) Holton. model: T602R   serial #: 030965   The #'s are exactly like that on the horn. There is a 0 in front of the 3 in the serial number, if that's significant. I didn't find "Collegiate" anywhere on the horn.

2)Reynolds. model: Onyx   serial #: 295118

I looked both of these up, and I honestly don't believe the dates. The Holton is supposedly from 1914, and the Reynolds is supposedly from 1959. The dates seem to old.

Thank you,
Jed

Answer
The serial number charts I have for Holton would make that number pre 1920, but the model number of T602 is a Collegiate model and I don't know when they attached the model number nor exactly when they started the Collegiate models but I thought it was in the 1930s.  Leblanc bought out Holton in 1964 and continued to use the model designation.  And the serial number chart I have only goes up to 1980.  (with number 558936)  I don't have any information on what happened after 1980.

I have the Onyx model being made between 1972-9.  I have this serial listed as 1974.

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
