Question
I have a c.g conn ltd saxophone with the serial number m252-521 i also have the original black ivory mouth piece. i was wondering the age and approxament value of my saxophone. is this something that i sould hold on to? it is still in the origanal case with the original neck. will this item appreciate in value or is it just taking up space?

Answer
Woodwinds are not my area, but I believe that your horn was made in 1932.  Conn saxophones are well respected, and I would think it of some value.  I don't attempt to do estimates on here, but you could check eBay to see what similar horns are going for.  Interesting question as to whether it will appreciate in value.  I think it is likely that it will appreciate, but vintage instruments are such an unpredictable market.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
