Antique Musical Instruments/salvation army baritone

Question
I purchased this silver clad Boosey & Hawkes Baritone at an antique store for $175. It has hand engraved on it Salvation Army Staff Band model. the serial number is 251338. I looked that up and think it was made in 1957. Did I make a good buy? It plays great and has minor dings. Does the fact that it played in a Salvation Army Band add anything to the value? Thank you for your help. Tammy

Answer
Tammy,

1) you didn't pay much and
2) you say it plays great;

the fact that it was a SA horn doesn't really mean much, except it gives you an idea of where it has been.

But you already know the answer.  You have a horn that plays great and you didn't spend much money on it.  What could be better?

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
