Question
Hi,
I have a brushed silver 3 piston trumpet with a rotary valve coming off of the 3rd valve slide changing the horn from an A to a Bb.  The inner bell has been identified as gold plated.  Inscribed on the bell: American Hager-Musical Instr. co. Grand Rapids Mich. U.S.A.  Serial# on the 2nd valve 64033, and on the rotary valve 2533.  I have really been stumped on my own research with the original manufacturer and date of this unique horn.
Thank you so very much.

Answer
I apologize for not responding sooner.  For some reason, I'm not getting notice from AllExperts.

Hager was a dealer who contracted with other makers to make instruments made with his name on the logo, which were primarily made for the 'school sale' trade.

York made some of Hager's instruments

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
