Expert: Kenton Scott - 9/24/2005

Question
I recently aquired an old french horn which has the inscription "Made by the BOSTON Musical Instrument Manuf'y" on it. Can you give me an estimated value- its in excellant condition (at least I think so)....or tell me how to find this information. I cannot find any other markings on it- i.e. serial numbers etc. to date it- I do know that this company went out of business in the early 1900's.

I would say that it is indeed a french horn, although a rather early model of one, before they took on the convention of the 'french' curves.  

It appears to be in remarkable condition.  

I am going to share your pictures with a couple of folks that may see something I'm missing.  

And, would you object to me posting the pictures on my WEB site, http://www.horn-u-copia.net?  Maybe some of the partipants on there may have an idea about it as well.  

Just out of curiosity, what is your history with this horn?
