Question -
I have a saxephone and the info I could get off the instrument reads as follows:  concirloni
low pitch  serial#  A 191884
the name was a little hard to read. Please help me determine the value of this sax.
Answer -
Could that possibly be Concertone?

The Low pitch marking would indicate that it was made in the first part of the 20th century, where that was a consideration.

Yes that is it a concertone, is there any value to this instrument? Please help me.

Answer
Concertone instruments were sold through the Montgomery Ward department/catalog stores.  They were actually Czech made, and Wards just stencilled their brand name on them.

Unfortunately, they were not highly regarded, and considered to be beginning level instruments.  Though I understand that the Czech made instruments were a mixed bag; with some being decent players and others just junk.

So, it is certainly not a collector's item, and if you are considering selling it, I suppose that taking your chances on eBay would be as good an option as anything else.

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
