Antique Musical Instruments/vintage trumpet

Question
Hello,
I have acquired a trumpet and the only marking on it is BUCKEYE.  I can remember this trumpet from at least 40 years ago. I've tried to research on the internet, but I can't find anything...Can you tell me anything about it?

Answer
Hi Susan,

I have not run across any trumpets named Buckeye.  The most likely possibilities would be that is was made by a small craftsman or was a tradename used by some minor retailer.  Of the two the second is the most likely.

Usually, a craftsman will select his own name or location.  Tradenames are more likely to be words of common usage.

Sorry I don't have any more information

Expertise

Please note: My area is BRASS instruments, not other wind, string or percussion instruments. I will provide information on antique, obscure and out of production BRASS instruments. 1) Please don't ask for evaluations, I'll not provide them on this site. 2) I am often asked very similar questions, so I'd invite you to first check on Horn-u-Copia.net. Much of the information I have garnered about this topic, I have posted on this WEB site.

Experience

I perform in several historical bands, have informally researched the area, repair brass instruments, and operate a Forum dedicated to the topic at http://horn-u-copia.net
