Antique Pianos/Willis Montreal Piano
Expert: Todd Lindeblad - 12/14/2011
QuestionHello,
I have a Willis and Co piano with the serial number 10132 and was wondering if you could tell me what year it was built as I know it was in the early 1900's.
Furthermore, do you think there would be any resell value to the piano or stool (original with crystal feet)? I realize it is very old and honestly even if someone would take it for free I would be okay with that. I'm moving out of my parents home in a few months and my mother is going to take a chain saw to it as she doesn't want it left behind and I am unable to take it with me. I would hate to see it destroyed as I feel it is a piece of history but I am not sure if there is a market for antique pianos. It was given to me by my grandfather years ago when I started to learn and I'm attached to it, still trying to negotiate her keeping it for but I don't think that is going to happen. When it is tuned it only holds a tune for about a month so I realize that there is work that needs to be done, but it has been great to learn on so just trying to figure out what to do with it, even if I can't get any money for it. The soundboard doesn't have any cracks and all of the original ivory keys are intact. I know it is hard without looking at the piano to know, but even general comments would be great.
I would greatly appreciate any advice you have and thank-you for taking time to provide these answers it is much appreciated.
