Question I recently purchased a building with a antique Diebold Safe
it is black with what looks like the original paint with what looks like custom pinstripes. It does have some rust on the top. Anyone know a rough estimate on the value?
Outside Dimensions Inside Dimensions Approx. Weight (lbs.)
H W D H W D lbs
42 32 26 34 18 18 1,250
Combo Dial - Diebold
Right Hand Square Door - Hides Into Side Of Safe
Interior Has One Adjustable Shelf
Answer Justin,
Without seeing photo's of the safe, any guess on the age or value would be just that - a guess!
Mosler & Diebold both made safes similar to what you are describing. Most of these were made during the 50's & 60"s. These were basically record type safes, only allowing protection against fire or heat. Generally these safes would only be worth $0-$300 (retail), depending on the condition. Again without seeing pictures of your safe this is a best guess.
If you would like a better estimate, please send me photo's of the full exterior/interior, and detail photo's of the dial, lock & bolt work, handle, hinges, wheels (if any), art work, labels, cabinetry, and any significant features (like the door tucking into the side of the safe).
As soon as I see the photo's I can give you a better idea of what you have and possibly what it is worth.
Rating Antique Value is based on several things, such as (but not limited to):
1. Condition: (excellent, good, fair, poor)
2. Age
3. Manufacture
4. Type: (Fire, Data, Burglary (bankers or jewelers)
5. Construction methods: (sheet steel, cast iron, composite, heavy steel/manganese)
6. Size / Weight
7. Art work (original/refurbished/restored)
8. History: (documented with and without photo's)
9. Purpose of "resale"
Now that you have a homework assignment, send me the photo's so that we can give you more info.
