Question
I have an opportunity to pick up a Jeweler Safe. It reads WJ Sader  Gary Safe Co, Buffalo NY. Do you know anything about this? I was wondering what the value of this would be. It is approx. 7ft tall 4ft wide 2 ft deep. It is on 4 big casters. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
Dawn,

The safe is not a Jewelers Safe.  It is basically an old record safe.  Some of these safes had interior chests that were more secure, but none of them have current ratings and should not be used for overnight storage of valuables in excess of $3000.
Secondly, I don't think it is a "Gary" safe, it is probably a "Cary" safe.  Gary safes were built in the Los Angeles area before they became Allied Gary and moved to Seattle.  Cary Safe was in Buffalo.

Typical value would be in the neighborhood of $0-$1000 depending on the condition of the safe.  Without seeing the safe I can't give you a better price than this.
Feel free to send me pictures of the safe so that I can give you a better idea.

The WJ Sader was probably the original or at least an owner at some time.  It was customary for the manufacture or the distributor to put the original customers name on the safe.

Get me a little more info or some photo's so I can give you more info about it.  If you can find out who WJ Sader was, you might be able to get a little closer date and age for the safe.
