Hello, My name is Matt Lamborn, To add to the answer....Tom, they make a 22KT gold leaf vinyl. It is considerable less cost than that of real 23KT hand applied gold leaf. They use the 22KT gold vinyl film on todays fire trucks. But for restoration purposes...I would try hard to find a good local signpainter who is experienced in gold leafing. I have recently been bitten by the antique safe bug. My specialty is hand-painted pinstriping and 23KT gold leafing. I am a sign painter/carver of 20+ years. I am not here to advertise. I recently accuired a late 1800's safe. It is a National Safe & Lock Co. from Cleveland, Ohio. The safe was in pretty bad condition but was fortunately 95% complete. I am very much enjoying researching it and refinishing it and can't wait until it is time to goldleaf and pinstripe it. It appears that some of the original lettering was done in silver leaf and the striping was done in 23KT gold leaf. I consider your website to be a great find.
