Question

A & B pair
Can you ballpark a value for:

Pre-Depression era matched pairs of YORK safes labeled "A", "B", "C", "D"

Have all combinations, all fineals and a solid plate steel base.

"A" & "B" pair has dual dials on each door and measures 28" high 38" across & 20" deep;

"C" & "D" pair has single dials on each door and measures 32" high 38" across & 20" deep.

6" high base measures 38" across and 19" deep.

Answer
Phil,

Thanks for sending the pics in.  This is a really interesting "set of pairs", These safes would have been in a vault at a bank, or I've seen them in vaults in "high end" hotels.  Used for cash or valuable storage.  They would have been part of a safe deposit nest.  I don't normally see these as "stand-alone" units.

Value:
Fire:          $0     These units have zero fire resistance
Burglary:      $0     These units do not meet current burglary standards.
Resale:        $1200-$1500 per pair
Antique:       $1500-$1700     These units do need restoration, cleaning, painting, new cabinetry, etc.  But because they are fairly unique, they are worth slightly more.

Phil,

In order to rate or evaluate your safe I am going to need pictures.  Evaluation photos should consist of full exterior / interior views, and detail photos of the dial, handles, hinges & acorns, wheels or castors, locks and bolt work (you may need to open the back panel of the door to photograph), cabinetry, art work and any special details or damage.

Photos should be high resolution digital pics, to allow me to zoom in, to study in detail the safe you are requesting evaluation of.  Please review your photos before sending them.  If they are out of focus, or you can’t see them – then neither can I.  If the photos are larger than 2mb you may need to send them two at a time per email.

We try to be as unbiased as possible when evaluating and appraising, or offering possible restoration options to you.

Send the photos of the safe to andy@securitysafeusa.com

Informal evaluations are no charge.  If you need a formal evaluation or an appraisal for insurance, estate or resale purposes, we have an administrative fee for the extra work.
