Antique Safes/Weight of a paricular York Safe

Question
Hello Terry,
My company is going to be relocating to another building and needs to know the weight of our York Safe....Serial #9552.
They need to know whether the floor can hold it without further supports.  While it said Serial #9552, it also had another label with "Serial L - 00004605" on it.  Can you please offer any advice or leads as to how we can find this information.

Thank you very much.

Regards,
Kathy

Answer
Kathy,

There are a couple of numbers that you can use to "ball park" the weight of your safe.  If it is all steel, figure the square feet of all the walls, top & bottom and door at 1" thick.  Multiply this by 44 lbs and it will give you a rough estimate.
If the safe has concrete insulation, figure the steel portions as close as you can to square feet 1" thick at 44 lbs per sq ft.  Figure the concrete insulation in cubic feet at 144 lbs per cubic foot, (or 12 lbs per sqft 1" thick).  add your steel calculations and concrete calculations to give you the weight of the safe.

Another option would be to send me several pictures of the safe so that I can give you an estimate.  There are no records available by serial number, to give you the info that you need.

Send your pics to me, along with a brief reminder of your request to:  andy@securitysafeusa.com
