Question
Terry,
I am restoring a Cary safe. Any idea where I can find replacement hinge acorns. They appear to be the nickel plated screw in type. They have been damaged beond repair.
Thank you
jeff

Answer
Jeff,

There are no replacements available.  I have a box of old acorns that I have salvaged over the years, but no guarantee for quantity or quality, and unfortunately they are not indexed by manufacture.

Send me a photo of one of yours with a ruler in the back ground for reference, also the thread measurements.  I'll take a look at what I have.

Your other alternative would be to have a machinist make you new ones.  I think that this is the best alternative, as all of the new acorns will match and look nice.  You also would have a choice as to the finish.  I recently had some made for a MacNeale & Urban safe, these were rather large acorns, we made them of polished stainless and they were gorgeous!  Cost 8 x $125 = $1000.  Cost's generally run around $75 - $125.  If you have them made out of Brass instead you might get the cost down to between $40-$75.

Send the pics to me at:  andy@securitysafeusa.com
