Hi andy  key is missing to that old 1840 safe how hard would it be to make a key  it is in the open position

I would need the lock to fabricate a key.  Generally hand making a key to an antique lock usually takes around 2-4 hours.  Our rates are $95 per hour for shop time.  The first key is usually the hardest to make and I try to fabricate two at the same time to cut down on set ups and operation.  So if it took 3 hours to make one key, the cost would be $285, but if it took me four hours to make two keys, the cost per key would drop to $180 per key.

No guarantees on them time, the above illustrates average times.  The keys will not look antique as I will be using my lathe and milling machine to fabricate your keys, but they will work.

You may want to check with some lock shops in your area to find out what they would charge for the same service, some may be a little cheaper.
