Question
Hi,
I was wondering what was your opinion of worth on the safe that Carol asked you about.
We have an old masonry safe vault door form Racine city hall...and the combination to it as well...it was give to us ..for the taking when city hall was remodeled...my fiance broke all the brick wall and removed this door..it is very large and has an inner door with key...besides the outer door with combo..I was just curious what your answer to Carol was on her safe door inquiry...

I must appoligize, I talked to 50-100 people every day about their safe so I don't know which Carol you are refering to. The last Carol I recall was one that asked about a key for her Meilink safe.
First off, I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER compare one safe to another. Even if they are the same model, built the same day, with consecutive serial numbers, there are too many variables, especially with older safes to compare. It IS the old "Apples & Oranges" comparison. If your safe was a jewel in factory new condition, would you want me comparing it to a similar safe, which was ready for the dumpster? I don't think so.
In order to identify, evaluate or appraise your safe, I'm going to need photos. They should include full exterior and interior. Detail photos should include pictures of the dial, handles, hinges, artwork, locks, bolt work, castors, cabinetry and any special details or damage. Note: You may have to remove the back panel on the door to gain access to the lock & bolt work – I will need these pics. If you have a particular detail that you have a question about, I will need a photo of it.
Please use as high a resolution as possible. Pictures which are low resolution, out of focus, or from a distance don’t help when we try to evaluate the container. Note: with higher resolution, you may only be able to send 2-4 pictures per email, depending on the size of the file. If photos are larger than 2mb each, you may only be able to send two per email.

Our informal evaluation is at no charge, however if you need a formal evaluation or appraisal for insurance, estate sales, or to establish it as an antique, there is an administrative fee for this service.
