Question

safe
Could you tell me who made this safe or at least help to narrow down the possible makers?

Answer
Andy

Without any more info, it appears to be a "National Safe & Lock Company" Screw Door Safe, but there are too many descrepancies to unequivically say yes.
I went through all of my photos and couldn't find anything that matches up with your safe.

Carefully look at the old paing for any faint remantents of the original name.

Is this all you have (the body), or do you have the door and other components all so?

CommentThank you. I believe you are right. I have found this site with one that seems to match even ,the paint,it is missing the base but i have seen other national safes with same base as one in my first post . although it has a patent date of 1896 ,Google patents has it as an 1897 patent. http://www.4keyslocksafes.com/ansafespage.htm http://www.google.com/patents?id=WjNBAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA1&dq=national+safe+and+lock+co.+1897&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=1#v=onepage&q=&f=false
