Question
i recently took over as landlord at a public house it not having a safe  i had to purchase one in doing so then came across an old safe out side but alas no key so i got to wondering if is worth anything it being a philips and son from god knows how old it is could you help question being is it worth anything without a key

Answer
Dean,

The Phillips & Sons safe manufacture was in the Bristol area of England.
Everthing is "worth something" to someone - the question in this case, is will the cost of the repairs and restoration exceed the potential value of the safe, afterwards.  Phillips and Son's were in business from the 1860's to at least the 1920's, but are out of business now.

Depending on where you and the safe are, you may have "limited" success finding a safe company that can make keys for you.  If you are in the UK I would recommend:

Bradleys (Blyth) Ltd
One, King Street
Blyth
Northumberland
NE24 1LY
0845-100-2974
engineering@bradleys-blyth.co.uk

or you might try the following web page:  http://www.locksmiths.co.uk/

You will be able to find a locksmith near you, or you may be able to get a recommendation from the Master Locksmith Association, UK for a locksmith that can fabricate your key.

If you are in the US, let me know where and I'll see if I know of a referal in your area.
