Question
I bought a used Major Safe Co. wall safe: Ser: 34594 Mod: W 798. I am wondering how old it is and what UL rating its lock is. I am also curious of how much it originally cost. Would you happen to know where I could get a copy of the manual/brochure? I know I asked a lot of question, but any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Answer
Keith,

Major safe is now owned by American Security Products (AMSEC), you can contact them at:  http://www.amsecusa.com/ or 1-951-685-9680.

The safe you have is an obsolete model, there are no parts available for it, and it does not have a UL rating.

We do not even concern ourselves with how much a safe originally cost, as it has no bearing on what it is worth today.  If the safe is operational and works with no problems then it is has worth.  You didn't mention what you paid for the safe, so I don't have any way of comparing it to a current model to give you an idea if you paid too much money or not.

I'm not sure what information that you are looking for in a manual or brochure, as this is an obsolete product, there is not going to be either one available.  You can contact the factory to see if they have something, but because it is obsolete they aren't going to waste much time helping you.  Ask for tech service, extension 1036 if you do call in.

If you can be more specific with your questions, I may be able to answer them more completely.
