Antique Safes/Mosler safe

Question
I have a Mosler safe and was wondering if it was worth the trouble of lugging it with me when I moved. This depends on its value, as it weighs quite a bit.
Mosler class 2 hour fire
#376803
Spec F1-D
1Y89693
Cat #2016B
23w x 22.5d x 26.5 tall.
Other than a few spots of paint chipped off, and not being kept in the garage, it is in good looking and operating condition.

Answer
Dan,

Your safe was built prior to WWII (1940-1942).  The info on the SMNA label is as follows:
SMNA Spec:     F1-D     Fire Insulated Safe
Category:      B        2 Hour tested Fire Resistive Safe with Impact Testing
The "Y" in the 1Y89693 indicates that the original price of the safe was over $75.
Note:  This safe was built as a "fire safe" not a burglary resistive safe.

We don’t evaluate or appraise safes without seeing them.  Two safes manufactured at the same time may be worth totally opposite amounts today, based on their conditions.  We try to be as objective as possible, but ultimately the value is determined by the motivation of the buyer and seller.  We may also offer some ideas for restoration to help you out.

In order to identify, evaluate or appraise your safe, I'm going to need photos.  They should include full exterior and interior.  Detail photos should include pictures of the dial, handles, hinges, artwork, locks, bolt work, castors, cabinetry and any special details or damage.  Note:  You may have to remove the back panel on the door to gain access to the lock & bolt work – I will need these pics.  If you have a particular detail that you have a question about, I will need a photo of it.

Please use as high a resolution as possible.  Pictures which are low resolution, out of focus, or from a distance don’t help when we try to evaluate the container.  Note:  with higher resolution, you may only be able to send 2-4 pictures per email, depending on the size of the file.  If photos are larger than 2mb each, you may only be able to send two per email.

Please send all of the requested photos to:  andy@securitysafeusa.com

Our informal evaluation is at no charge, however if you need a formal evaluation or appraisal for insurance, estate sales, or to establish it as an antique, there is an administrative fee for this service.

In general, these safes are not worth very much, even in good condition.  Because the safe is over 50 years old, it is not considered to meet current fire or burglary standards.  Because it does not meet current standards, I don't recommend its use for overnight storage of cash, jewelry, or valuable documents.

Send me your pictures and I'll provide you with an evaluation.
