Question
Cary lock dial
Cary lock dial
QUESTION: Hello I have a Cary safe that someone tried to break into, they bent the dial and the bezel around the dial. I believe it is a yale y6 or m16 lock it has a 4 digit combo. I would like to replace the dial and bezel, does the cary dial interchange with the yale dial? And would you have parts or know where I can find a used dial? Thanks for your time and expertise.

ANSWER: Scott,

I do have a couple of Cary dials that I'll have to look at to see if they will work for you.  While it will probably interchange with a Yale dial, you are going to have as many problems finding a suitable replacement yale dial as you will a Cary.

Qestion:  how long is the spindle for your dial?

QUESTION: Do I need to remove the dial to measure the spindle? Where do I measure from? Thanks

Answer
Scott,

I checked my parts and I have two original Cary dials, with 5" long spindles.  If you want one, you can contact me at:  andy@securitysafeusa.com   or by calling 1-800-326-4224.  The cost is $150 per dial, plus UPS shipping & handling, plus applicable tax.

Scott,

Yes you will need to remove the dial to measure the spindle.  Measure it from the back of the dial the length of the spindle.

When you access the back of the lock, remove the wheel curb to reach the drive cam.  There will be a small spline key in the center of the drive cam that you must pull out.  You can then unscrew the dial from the drive cam.

Lay out all parts in the order you remove them to assist in reassembly.

If necessary, you can take a photo of the dial and spindle with a ruler laid along side, and send it to me at:  andy@securitysafeusa.com

Your alternative would be to try to repair your dial and dial ring, as a replacement is going to be around $150 to $200.

If you can't disassemble the lock, dial & ring, you may need to have a safe technician do the work for you.  Contact a local safe company, not a locksmith for service.
